Role of the Parish Athletic Representative (PAR)

The Parish Athletic Representative (PAR) oversees and supervises all sports programs and teams sponsored by the parish. The PAR is entrusted with imparting the goals, philosophy, and mission of CYO, while ensuring full compliance with CYO rules and regulations.

A successful PAR is flexible, respectful, supportive of spiritual growth, and dedicated to encouraging the development of Christian values within the CYO community. The most critical responsibility of a PAR or Moderator is the selection of Coaches and Athletic Directors. The PAR directly supervises Athletic Directors and Coaches and is accountable to the Moderator for all administrative matters and compliance with CYO rules.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinating all athletic programs registered with CYO, in harmony with other parish activities and organizations.
• Selecting Athletic Directors and Coaches with the approval of the Moderator.
• Maintaining knowledge and understanding of all CYO rules and regulations.
• Receiving and responding to communications from the CYO Director and staff.
• Submitting entry forms, fees, rosters, waivers, and other required documents accurately and on time.
• Distributing schedules and other important information from CYO staff to Athletic Directors.
• Actively participating in CYO meetings, committees, and training sessions (such as Play Like a Champion).
• Ensuring that all coaches and volunteers complete VIRTUS training before participation.
